With a deep love of music flowing through his veins from a very early age, Rory Phillips is not your average 13-year-old. Having first stepped onto a stage at age seven, Rory has already achieved more than most and has his sights set high for the future. A gifted musician, Rory is most comfortable with a guitar in his hands, but has been steadily building his skillset with the addition of mandolin, bass, harmonica and drums. Musically, he sits anywhere in the realm of blues, alt-country, folk or rock, depending on the situation and mood, and aside from his dynamic playing, most say it is his confidence and stage presence which sets him apart from his peers.
Bill Chambers (father of Kasey) has described Rory as “always displaying a professional enthusiasm way beyond his years, and definitely has a way with an audience” and is just one of a long list of industry heavyweights to have invited Rory to share the stage with him over the years, including Australian blues musicians Lloyd Spiegel, Shane Pacey (Bondi Cigars) and Jesse Valach. Rory has also been honoured to support The Turner Brown Band and Shaun Kirk recently in Canberra, and has been a featured artist at the Bendigo Blues & Roots Music Festival (2019), the Australian Blues Music Festival (Goulburn 2019) and at International Blues Music Day (Wagga Wagga 2019, 2018), as well as a featured busker at Bluesfest (2016/2017) when his guitar was bigger than he was!
Rory hopes to attend the Katherine Outback Blues Festival in person when travel restrictions are lifted and is very grateful to the organisers for arranging this online opportunity.
